oil spill
(july 2010 add on:
this is how i reacted to the 58,000 gal spill in november of 2007 here in the bay.)
the photos were lost… and then found again.
enjoy
the worst part of the trip to the port (where the boat was being held that dumped 58,000 gallons of fuel into the bay) was seeing the thin film of oil that spread for miles. toxic petroleum coating the coast, the rocks and piers. the most infuriating part was the pathetic attempt to wipe it all clean…
the saddest part was while watching all of the beautiful birds. the birds who can not read the signs that say no swimming, no fishing, no water contact what so ever.
they wonder why their skin burns and their eyes are blurry and their feathers won’t dry. they are wondering why the fish are starting to float and everything tastes the same but not the same as they remembered it tasting last week.
they might notice all the booms and the barricades and the signs… but they’ve seen much weirder things from us human beings. why just last summer we made the sky explode and melt but returned it to normal the next day. these birds are becoming desensitized to our ridiculous contradictions to the natural world. and now it is hindering their survival.
it makes you wonder… are they becoming as apathetic as us? is there prozac circulating in their water like it is in ours? do they believe in christ? is it blind faith because they are quite possibly blind? blind from all the oil in the eyes.
